FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS FROM MARA LONDON

After you have reached your destination in the United Kingdom or Northern Ireland, and have settled down with a permanent address, we would like to advice you to:

·       Open a bank account.

Before opening a bank account at a proper bank situated near to your accommodation, it is advisable for you to ask from senior students on which is the best banking service provided by which bank.  Please do not open a bank account with “Building Society” financial institutions, as it will cause problems when MARA Kuala Lumpur Headquarters credits monies into these types of accounts. 

·      Register yourself with the “National Health Service” (NHS) at your university.

This will enable you to be seen by a doctor or a General Practitioner (GP) under the NHS scheme, free of charge.  You will only have to pay for the prescription of medicines.  However, students are exempted from paying if they fill in the “AG1 Form” available when registering with NHS.  Please register with the nearest NHS clinic to your accommodation.  You can obtain the list of clinics or surgeries from your universities, landlords or the nearest post offices.  This service is only applicable for students in the United Kingdom only.

·     Register yourself with MARA London Office.

You can either register yourself by writing and post it, emailing or visiting MARA London in person.

Located

MARA London Office is located in the Bayswater vicinity, off Bayswater Road, within walking distance from the famous landmark of Whiteley’s Shopping Centre and Kensington Gardens and are accessible by tubes and buses.

The nearest tube stations are Queensway on the Central Line and Bayswater on the Circle Line.  The nearest bus stops are:  Bayswater Road (Porchester Terrace stop) on Routes Nos. 148 from Victoria, 94 and 390 from Marble Arch; and Bishop’s Bridge Road (Queensway stop) on Routes Nos. 7 and 23 from Oxford Street/Edgware Road. 

When corresponding with MARA London, please include your unique 12 digit MARA reference number found on the top right hand corner of your MARA offer letter (e.g.:  3304 0738 4153).  If you need to see any of the officers at the MARA London Office, kindly call the office to see if you need to make an appointment first and please dress smartly when visiting the office.  All correspondence should be addressed to:
